US FEDERAL COURTHOUSE
A Centerpiece to be Marveled
The centerpiece of the new United States Courthouse Tower in Seattle was a sloping, rolled stainless steel and granite monument with passages from the US Constitution embedded in script. The script was designed to look as though it was part of a reflection pool. The challenge in documenting and building the sign was in calculating the slope and its effect on the faceted granite as well as the degree of bend on the one-inch thick stainless. This monument was the winner of the Environmental Graphics Merit Award, HOW Magazine, International Design Awards 2005.
